Connecting Chemical Worlds

Event design for the largest chemistry congress on the globe

Creating Chemistry

Bringing together all disciplines of chemistry

For a week in August 2023, The Hague was the centre of the world of chemistry. Thousands of attendees gathered for talks, workshops, and meet-and-greets with pioneers and researchers. A wide range of visual elements guided the attendees through the convention floors, announced speakers, and provided clarifying information during presentations. All within a fixed colour palette and enriched with shapes and motion concepts fitting with the theme of “Connecting Chemical Worlds.”

Interaction

Connections create new elements

When bringing different elements together, new and exciting things happen. A parallel phenomenon occurs when individuals from various parts of the world convene face-to-face to deliberate on an innovative and sustainable future. This theme of transformation and new ideas was used as a visual concept. Shapes interact and emulate chemical reactions such as crystal growth or high impact physics. Skeletal structures of scientific notation were incorporated in templates for keynote presentations and signage throughout the congress.

Thanks so much Frank, Renée and the whole KNCV team!

From August 20 to 25, 2023, a diverse group of chemists from all over the world came together in The Hague, during IUPAC|CHAINS 2023. The theme of the conference was ‘Connecting Chemical Worlds’, and with 2000 participants from 77 different countries, that certainly was the case. Young talent, established researchers and chemists from industry presented their work and discussed how chemistry can contribute to solutions to today’s complex problems.

IUPAC|CHAINS 2023 was a combination of the biennial IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and the annual CHAINS conference of the NWO Domain Science, and was organized by the Royal Dutch Chemical Society (KNCV) and NWO.
